The course examines matter and energy forces and their impact on Earth by integrating chemistry, physics, Earth science and space science. The chemistry component of the course emphasizes the composition of matter and the changes it undergoes. It will cover the following topics: the states of matter, the physical and chemical properties of matter, the periodic table, atomic and molecular structure, the conservation of matter and energy, stoichiometry, solutions, acids, bases and salts, reaction rates, equilibrium, and nuclear reactions. The physics component of the course emphasizes how matter and energy are related and how energy is transferred through matter. It will address the basic principles and laws of physics including motion, acceleration, forces, Newton's Laws, momentum, energy, simple machines, electricity and magnetism, waves (including sound and light), and heat. The Earth and space science component will introduce the universe, the solar system, and the Earth and its processes, and will address Earth's place in the universe, dynamic earth processes, and energy in the Earth system.

Biology is a course in Biological principles such as Ecology, Cells Genetics & and Evolution. The course will use lecture, lab, and textbook approach.

Learn about the ocean that is so close to you! This one trimester course focuses on the physical and biological processes in marine environments. Topics of study include - atmosphere, ocean currents, ocean zones, marine life/food webs, climate change, ocean acidification, sea ice flow, sea level rise, tectonic plates, commercial fishing and pollution. Lastly, great effort will be made to organize a tide pooling field trip to Fort Bragg!

Chemistry is an advanced course in Physical Science with a heavy emphasis on mathematics. Emphasis is placed on structure and composition of materials and their chemical changes.

Students in this course will examine the following physics topics: mechanics, electricity & magnetism and wave motion.
